The Baku Railway Station is the main gateway of Azerbaijan's railways. It stands almost in the centre of the city, beside the 28 May metro station, to which it is linked by a pedestrian tunnel. From here run suburban, intercity and international trains.
The railway came to Baku as early as 1880 — together with the oil boom. Since then the station has been rebuilt more than once, but its old Moorish building still greets passengers. This site is about the history of the station, its architecture, the railways of Azerbaijan and how it lives today.
