A railway junction
The Baku station is the main junction of the Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). From here diverge three kinds of route: suburban trains across Absheron, intercity across the country and international — to the neighbours. The station has five platforms and eight tracks.
Where the trains go
Suburban
Electric trains link the station with the villages and beaches of the Absheron peninsula — the suburban network begins here.
Intercity
Long-distance trains run from Baku to the cities of Azerbaijan — Ganja, Sumgayit and others, across the whole rail network of the country.
International
International trains also depart from here — above all to neighbouring Georgia, to Tbilisi.
Baku–Tbilisi–Kars
Opened in 2017, the corridor linked Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, becoming part of the new Silk Road between Asia and Europe.
A bridge between Asia and Europe
Baku has long stood at the crossroads of routes between East and West. The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway continued this role: along it goods and passengers run from Azerbaijan through Georgia into Turkey and on to Europe. The Baku station is one of the gateways of this 'Middle Corridor'.
From electric locomotives to expresses
Both freight electric locomotives and passenger trains run on the railways of Azerbaijan — from suburban electric trains to modern international services. ADY has its own depots, where the rolling stock is serviced and repaired.
From Baku the rails lead to the sea, to the mountains and across three countries — along the old and the new Silk Road.
